Green School

Westowne Elementary School is dedicated to becoming a Green School through the Maryland Green School Award Program. This prestigious program recognizes schools that use the school site, the community and their curriculum to prepare students to understand and act on current and future environmental challenges. The program uses the environment as a framework for integrating math, science, reading, writing and social studies and arts as part of the regular curriculum.

It takes our whole community to work toward this goal -- parents, teachers, staff, students, and our business partners. We also try to minimize waste by conserving energy and reducing solid waste. Please ask your teachers about what they are doing in their classroom for Green School and what you can do to help. Look out for more info in the future!!Globe

The staff contact is Ms. Bozman, a wonderful third grade teacher, and the parent contact is Sarah Montgomery. Please see the WES site or the Baltimore County site at http://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/go/deprm for more information on the Green School Program.

Maryland Green Schools

Westowne has earned the status of "Green School" in the State of Maryland! To qualify for the Green School Award, a school must meet rigorous criteria through which students develop the knowledge and skills needed to act on current and future environmental challenges. The program uses the environment as a framework for integrating mathematics, the sciences, reading, writing, social studies and the arts.

To every teacher who went to training and then taught students something new, to students who came home and asked their parents to start recycling, to parents who made phone calls and ran programs, to the Westowne administration who helped it all come together, thank you. The adventure continues!  Special thanks to Ms. Abby Bozman (faculty) and Sarah Montgomery (PTA).  For more information about the program, contact Sarah at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
